Indra Kumar Sinha

b. 1932 – d. 2019

Indra Kumar Sinha was born on 25 November 1932 (৯ আগ্রন ১৩৩৯ সন্‌, শুক্রবার) in a humble family of Pakaipar village, Narsingpur pargona, in the district of Cachar Assam. His father’s name is Ningthem Sinha and his mother’s name is Akupisena Sinha. He retired from service as a block development officer. His wife Bhanumati Sinha is no more. They have two sons- Ilabanta and Sandip, and four daughters – Reba, Anupama, Nirupama and Anuradha.

Indra Kumar Sinha is a multifaceted personality. He is the first modern short story writer in Bishnupriya Manipuri. He has penned sixteen short stories till date. He is also an equally gifted dramatist and an artist. His dramas are very popular. The portraits of Bhubaneswar Sadhuthakur, Gokulananda Gitiswami and others are adorned in every household. He is also an active social worker. He played a key role developing an conducive environment for intellectual and economic development in Narsingpur area in particular and Bishnupriya Manipuri society in general. He is associated with many social organizations including Bishnupriya Manipuri Sahitya Sabha. He is a recipient of literary pension from the govt. of Assam. He breathed his last on 17th March, 2019 at about 8:14 pm at his residence.
