Ashwini Kumar Sinha

b. 1925 – d. 1999

Aswini Kumar Sinha was a dramatist of repute. He was born on 12 June, 1925 (২৯ জৈষ্ঠ ১৩৩২ সন্‌, শুক্রবার) in the village Bekirpar, Narsingpur pargona. His father was Lalbabu Sinha and mother was Laikhomsena Sinha. They have four daughters, Priti, Shanti, Geeti and Niti, and two sons Smriti Kumar and Shakti Kumar. Lalbabu was a reputed Ayurved practioner. Aswini Kumar also studied Ayurveda at Dhaka. He stayed at Imphal for few years. After comming back from Imphal he and Guru Bipin Singh together started taking lessons on Manipuri dance under Guru Senarik Rajkumar.

After Golapbabu Sinha started the modrn theatre movement namely Tarunodoy Kalabharati, he joined the movement. At that time the dramas were performed in Bengali. Aswini Kumar Sinha was the first dramtist to write dramas in the Bishnupriya Manipuri language.

For the drama Harishchandra, he was awarded Assam Sangeet Natak Academy award in 1967 as the best dramatist in mythology section.

Aswini Kumar Sinha passed away due to cardiac arrest on 5 September 1999 (১৯ ভাদ্র ১৪০৬ সন, রবিবার).
