MEHERPUR COMMITTEE MEET

On 10th September 2023, Sunday, an Executive body meeting of the Meherpur Committee of Bishnupriya Manipuri Sahitya Sabha was held. It followed the participation of the Central Committee in a tripartite meet organised by IBM (Imaa Bishnupriya Manipuri), a registered social organisation, seeking a resolution of the SCERT workbook controversy for NEP2020 implementation. This meeting however failed in its effort owing to one of the party, namely Nikhil Bishnupriya Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, Assam abstaining from it. The meeting was held in Mohanpur, Cachar, Assam. BMSS president Dr. Smriti Kumar Sinha while addressing this meeting provided insight, disclosures and opinion on the controversy on behalf of Bishnupriya Manipuri Sahitya Sabha (BMSS). Since the purpose of the meeting failed and and official statement of BMSS was recorded, it necessitated an urgent executive meet of the executive body at Silchar (Meherpur). The meeting was presided by the President of the Central Committee, Dr. Smriti Kumar Sinha, and he held discussions on various action plans that needed to be taken up immediately on the matter along with other issues.

Here too Dr. Sinha elaborately discussed the root cause of the conflict of spelling and grammar of the Bishnupriya Manipuri language and how a section of educated people into academics have discarded Academic Ethics to propagate a wrong theory in linguistics and grammar to mislead the people in general. He also discussed the long standing ill implications of such activities on students and literature of the community.

Various action plans were also discussed elaborately too. The meeting was attended by most of the executive body of the Meherpur committe and it was held at the BMSS headquarters at College Road, Silchar.
